With more than 140 member companies \u2013 including registries, registrars, back-end providers, consultants and experts from the secondary market \u2013 the forum encompasses the entire spectrum of the industry. The <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/topics\/names-numbers\/about-en\/\"><strong>eco Names &amp; Numbers Forum<\/strong><\/a><strong> works with a broad network of partners. In 2024, Rickert also represented the <a href=\"https:\/\/ispcp.info\/\">Internet Service Providers and Connectivity Providers Constituency<\/a> (ISPCP), both in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gnso.icann.org\/en\/about\/council\">GNSO Council<\/a> and in the small teams on the topics of <a href=\"https:\/\/icann-community.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/gnsocouncilmeetings\/pages\/111125820\/Board+Readiness+Small+Team+2024-2025\">Board Readiness<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/icann-community.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/EOTSFGRD\/pages\/115682448\/RDRS+Standing+Committee+Team+Members+Mailing+Lists\">RDRS Standing Committee<\/a>. Since the ICANN78 meeting in Hamburg, Lars Steffen has also become a member of the ISPCP Executive Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, eco Association collaborated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icann.org\/\">Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers<\/a> (ICANN Org) and eco member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipb.de\/\">Internet Provider Berlin<\/a> (IPB) to host a significant event in Berlin in September 2024. Moderated by Thomas Rickert, this gathered Germany\u2019s Internet community members for a roundtable discussion on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dotmagazine.online\/issues\/digitalacceleration\/multistakeholder-internet-governance\">Multistakeholder Internet Governance and the Internet We Want<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ICANN Meetings 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">79th ICANN Meeting \u2013 San Juan, Puerto Rico<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/icann79.sched.com\/\">first ICANN meeting<\/a>, entitled the Community Forum, took place in early March in Puerto Rico. The community engaged in intensive discussions on policy updates, security concerns and governance issues. Key discussions covered geopolitical developments, DNS abuse mitigation, name collision risks, the role of Public Interest Commitments (PICs) and Registry Voluntary Commitments (RVCs), and updates on the Registration Data Request Service (RDRS). There was also the growing need for multi-stakeholder engagement in addressing cybersecurity threats and policy challenges in the evolving digital landscape. A significant announcement at ICANN80 was Kurt Erik Lindqvist\u2019s appointment as CEO and President of ICANN. The results were summarised in a <a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/news\/icann80-readout-highlights-take-aways-from-the-policy-forum-2\/\">readout webinar<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/icann80-readout.pdf\">report<\/a> organised by eco Association and ICANN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">81st ICANN Meeting \u2013 Istanbul, Turkey<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/icann81.sched.com\/\">ICANN81 Policy Forum<\/a> took place in Turkey in November. Key topics included the launch of the Coalition for Digital Inclusion (CODI), AI-driven DNS abuse, DNS filtering, and updates on policy development processes. The meeting also emphasised transparency, the role of Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs), and preparations for WSIS+20, reinforcing ICANN\u2019s commitment to an inclusive and secure global Internet. This resource offers general tips and critical information on accelerated procedures and emergency protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>In June 2024, eco Association hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/news\/netmundial10-recap-webinar-recording-available-in-members-area\/\">NETmundial+10 recap webinar<\/a>, summarising selected topics from the Global Stakeholder Meeting in S\u00e3o Paulo in April.&nbsp;Speakers from various stakeholder groups of the High-Level Executive Committee (HLEC) provided an overview of the highlights and key take-aways of the meeting from their respective perspective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>September 2024 saw the release of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=U2qVqwpTKsU&amp;t=17s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explainer video<\/a> of the eco Association\u2019s topDNS Initiative, explaining why domain shutdowns are not a sustainable solution against illegal Internet content. The initiative not only closely collaborates with the Anti-Abuse Competence Group and the Security Competence Group, but also with numerous partners such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnsabuseinstitute.org\">NetBeacon Institute<\/a>, the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetjurisdiction.net\/\"><strong>Internet &amp; Jurisdiction Policy Network<\/strong><\/a><strong> and the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcyberalliance.org\/\"><strong>Global Cyber Alliance<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>The topDNS Initiative brings together registries, registrars and hosting providers with the shared mission of ensuring stable, reliable and secure operation of the Domain Name System (DNS). Current participants include Verisign, Team Internet, Public Interest Registry (.ORG), IQ Global, IONOS, InterNetX, Leaseweb, CleanDNS, nic.at and Realtime Register. In 2024, three new supporters also joined, including Cloudflare, Switch and VVR (Vereiniging van Registrars). We are very pleased that we have been able to significantly expand the group of supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2024, Thomas Rickert, eco Director Names &amp; Numbers, delivered a well-received presentation at <a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/news\/cloudfest-2024-with-panel-on-dns-abuse\/\">Cloudfest<\/a> about DNS abuse mitigation and the industry\u2019s response to evolving online threats. Industry representatives from across the domain ecosystem gathered in Stockholm, where Lars Steffen, Head of International, Digital Infrastructures &amp; Resilience at eco Association, moderated the morning session on the main stage on 14 May. Additionally, the initiative featured prominently in the programme with a presentation and a collaborative half-day DNS Abuse Workshop with iQ Global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At M3AAWG61 in May 2024, topDNS hosted a panel discussion led by Patrick Koetter, Head of the eco Anti-Abuse and Email Competence Group.
